The digital camera that you purchase should suit your needs, not conform the the so called 'best in its class'. There are very few cameras (unless you are willing to spend a large sum of money) that stand head and shoulders above the rest. Digital cameras in general will have to compromise between certain things, such as features and image quality. As an example, some of the best selling cameras may be easy to work with but if it has a limited ISO range, then you should think of an alternative. The cameras that blatantly advertise rock bottom prices are extremely unlikely to be able to handle other facets of digital photography.
