The Origins of Oil Painting

Certain reliable sources claim that oil painting first used for and originated from Buddhist Paintings in Western Afghanistan by Indians and Chinese around the fifth and tenth century. Yet although it existed so early, it was not until the fifteenth century that the use of it migrated westward at the period of the Middle Ages in Europe that it became of popular use. Eventually, oil paint became the most important medium used to create artworks due to the advantages it offered. European art began from Early Netherlandish painting that was done in northern Europe, and its epitome of artwork was achieved at the period of the Renaissance. It nearly completely replaced tempera paints in most parts of Europe. Recently, water miscible oil paint gained prominence and replaced traditional oils to a certain extent.
