By Jeff L. Robertson Hip Hop is a cultural movement originating among ethnic minorities in the South Bronx during the late 1970s. Portions of this subculture was becoming mainstream around the early 1980s; during the 1990s Hip Hop culture spread around the world. The movement is said to have kick started by Afrika Bambaataa, Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five and DJ Kool Herc. The numbers of Hip Hop producers in New York and Los Angeles has since ballooned. The five elements are as follows: DJ'ing - Turning records and scratching them; Rap - rhythm and poetry. B-Boying: Different dance forms in either very fluid or rhythmic movement. The dancer twirls with the head spin and often making very complicated acrobatic moves. Other concepts of the dance are the Top Rock, Down Rock - these form basic elements.
